Shocking Triple Homicide in Central Utah
Utah authorities have released new details in the shocking triple homicide that has ratted Central Utah this week. These new details include the identities of the three women that were killed in Wayne County.
Identities of the Victims Revealed
Investigators say the victims are Margaret Oldroyd, 86, Linda Dewey, 65, and Natalie Graves, 34. We've also been told that the three were killed by a man who had no connection to them and no ties to the area.
Prosecutors say that Ivan W. Miller, 22, of Blakesburg, Iowa, has now been charged with three counts of aggravated murder. He was arrested early Thursday morning near Pagosa Springs, Colorado after a multi-state manhunt.
Details of the Horrific Crimes
According to investigators, the violence began in the tiny town of Lyman, Utah. Court documents say that Miller entered Oldroyd's home, waited behind a door, and shot the 86 year old woman in the back of the head while she was sitting watching television. Miller then moved her body and stole her vehicle. He later told investigators that he didn't like Oldroyd's vehicle, and wanted a different one. At this point, authorities say he drove to Cockscomb Trail along Scenic Highway 12 between Torrey and Teasdale where the next victims, Dewey and Graves were hiking together. According the the charging documents, Miller approached the women and shot Graves first, then shot Dewey multiple times. Prosecutors then say he stabbed Dewey in the heart before dragging both victims into a ditch nearby.
The two women were later found by their husbands, after they never returned home after the hike. Investigators say Miller admitted that the killings were committed so he could steal their vehicle, money, and credit cards, attempting to make his way back to Iowa.
During the questioning, Miller told investigators said the murders "had to be done", though he claimed he did not enjoy doing it.
