St. George is a wonderful place to grow up, live, work, and even raise af family. Here in St. George, we have sun about 300 days a year. We've got lots of churches, beautiful cliffs and bluffs, clean streets, and awesome facilities. But, there's definitely some things that we need to JUST RELAX about.

Here are the TOP THINGS that St. George needs to really CHILL OUT about:

Soda Shops:

Obviously this isn't a hot topic here. Just off the top of my head, I can name 5 Swigs, 2 Splash's, Fiiz, Pop, Sipsanity, The Sodamix, Sip-N, and we once had Thirst here too. Now, I'm showing support for what we currently have, but maybe another shop would be overkill.

Pickleball Courts:

We have SO MANY pickleball courts in this area, which I'm fine with. I ROCK at pickleball. But like my friend Dale said "Pickleball courts are consuming tennis courts like a snake swallowing an egg."

Maverik:

Adventures First Stop is battling the LDS Churches in the turf war of locations. If there's an unused piece of ground in St. George, you know there is a high chance it will either be an LDS Church or a Maverik gas station.

Desertscape Landscaping:

Look, I get it... we're in a drought apparently. But the Desertscape landscaping is SO UGLY. Everywhere we look, they're ripping out beautiful green grass, trees, and bushes, and replacing it with rocks, rocks, rocks, and more rocks. It drives me bananas. Give us the green back!

Mexican Restaurants:

It actually hurts saying this... but we've got enough, I think. I mean, how many places do we need to get tacos or burritos? There are SO MANY that are just okay, a few that are SPECTACULAR, and a ton that are just generic. I know we actually have another HUGE Mexican Restaurant coming to town really soon, but after that... let's just call it good on Mexican Restaurants in town.

Vintage Meets Today... Look How Much St. George, Utah Has Changed

The other day I came across some old postcards of St. George, Utah. A lot of these buildings are long gone, but some are still standing. I thought it would be fun to do some side by sides of the postcards from WAY back in the day vs. the way the same land looks today.

Larsen's Frostop:

Frostop has CLEARLY been a staple here in St. George for YEARS! Unfortunately, Frostop has closed down twice in the last year, and it doesn't appear that this time it's coming back.

St. George Boulevard:

A lot of the buildings on St. George Boulevard still same, but most of them are LONG GONE. The D is still on the hill though, and that makes all of us happy!

Safari Motel - Brent's Interiors:

Safari Motel had CRAZY CHARM, but was torn down years ago. Brent's Interiors now stands in it's place on the West end of St. George Boulevard!

This Motel:

This motel, I'm not sure the name of. It looks like maybe it was Sal's Motel? It's now been torn down for years, and currently a parking lot that allows no parking.

Dick's Cafe:

Dick's Cafe is a BIG piece of St. George history. Ask around, you'll know somebody that worked there, or just LOVED it. It's now the Goldenwest Credit Union on St. George Boulevard across the street from Angelica's Mexican Grill.

Big Hand Cafe:

Big Hand Cafe was here for so long, and the tradition lives on with George's Corner. It's a different building, a different restaurant, but on the same property, tipping it's cap to Big Hand Cafe.

J.C. Penney:

J.C. Penney was located on St. George Boulevard across from Big Hand Cafe. It's now Urban Renewal. Going inside the current building, you can feel the absolute charm and history!

Sands Motel:

Sands Motel on St. George Boulevard is STILL STANDING! It seems like a cheap little motel though. I wish it was a more expensive, more charming piece of St. George History before it gets torn down!

This shot was taken right outside of Pasta Factory on St. George Boulevard. The Boulevard looked so charming and calm back then.

The TraveLodge on St. George Boulevard was located next to Pizza Factory / Pasta Factory. It was more recently the Hospital Thrift Shop, but it's now torn down and NOTHING stands in it's place.
