Gunshots In Santa Clara, UT Prompt Quick Investigation And Lead To Arrest
Santa Clara, Utah became the location of a shelter in place order on Thursday January 30 at 11 p.m. after gunshots were heard.
Reports of gunshots near Santa Clara View Drive and Circle Drive in Santa Clara had officers responding to the area late in the evening, a Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department Press Release said. Officers arrived on scene to find that a person had been shot and was dead at the time of arrival while another resident had been shot but did not have life-threatening injuries.
The second shooting victim was then taken to the St. George Regional Hospital via EMS.
The first reports had suggested that an unknown person entered the house during a home invasion, the press release said. This resulted in the first victim being shot as the alleged home invader fled the scene after shots were fired.
After learning this, officers sent out a reverse 911 call to locals to shelter in place while the officers searched for the shooter.
Further investigation and speaking to those at the residence revealed that there was no unknown shooter and the shelter in place order was lifted, the press release said.
The investigation revealed that one person was the cause of the incident resulting in an arrest. The individual was charged with Murder, Felony Discharge of a Weapon, and Aggravated Assault. This is an ongoing case.
