As someone born and raised in Vernal, I grew up hearing rumors about the paranormal in the Uintah Basin.

Those rumors and stories have turned into books, reality TV shows, radio shows, podcasts, and now a paranormal conference called Phenomecon in Vernal at the Uintah Conference Center.

I will put this here as a disclaimer before getting into the rest of the article. It’s okay to have fun but please be respectful of Indigenous beliefs and please try to not lose touch with reality.

Phenomecon held its first event in 2021 and last year’s event included speakers from the shows Expedition Bigfoot, The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch as well as Duane Ollinger of Blind Frog Ranch.

Other speakers included George Knapp and Travis Walton along with a host of other paranormal researchers, authors, and reporters. If the name Travis Walton sounds familiar, his story was featured in the film Fire In The Sky.

You could also add on activities like escorted trips to Skinwalker Ranch, dark sky watching, and ghost hunting in downtown Vernal.

Phenomecon will be back again in 2024.
