Everything Utah Parents Need To Know About This Dangerous New TikTok Trend
New online challenges have been posing a risk to young teens everywhere, including Utah.
Earlier this month, a TikTok trend called the Chromebook Challenge invited people to overheat laptops by inserting a metal object into the ports. This can make sparks fly or even cause the electronic to overheat, Fox 13 said.
Basically, that terrible urge to do something slightly dangerous is making its way across popular social media platform TikTok once again.

School districts across the U.S. are aware of the Chromebook Challenge and have sent letters out to parents and families warning them that any school property (school Chromebooks) damaged from this trend would be charged directly to the kid and their guardians.
Chromebook Challenge in Utah
Shoving small metal objects like a paper clip into a Chromebook port is very much something some Utah adolescents would do. The risk of injury is present in this online challenge and one student in New Jersey is facing charges after trying the challenge.

This is just one of the few examples of kids trying it across the country.
TikTok puts up a message when someone searches for the Chromebook Challenge stating:
“Some online challenges can be dangerous, disturbing, or even fabricated. Learn how to recognize harmful challenges so you can protect your health and well-being.”
It also has a button to view more resources on the subject matter. However, would a message like this really stop kids? Probably not.
So, Utah parents need to keep an eye out on this growing trend and make sure their kids understand the danger of it and the monetary/legal consequences that come with it.
