I like to think the best of people, which means that I think we all love a charity/nonprofit. We’re reminded by social media each year around our birthdays that we can start a fundraiser for a nonprofit, which I think is cool. One of these local nonprofits is the Figmentation Foundation.

The Figmentation Foundation helps kids dealing with life-threatening trauma by assisting them to create a short film and produce custom costumes for the film. The foundation was founded by Jeremy “Mama” Bird who has a background in design and cosplay, co-founder and operations director Jacque Ence, and production manager Eric Bird. The Figmentation Foundation also has a board that consists of four people and several partners including the Black Desert Resort in St. George where the Figmentation Foundation studio is currently under construction.

I was able to see what the Figmentation Foundation was all about a few years ago at their booth at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention in Salt Lake City. I had already been able to visit with Jeremy Bird a year or two prior about the World of Warcraft Lich King cosplay she was designing for the FanX cosplay contest that year which did end up winning the contest. When she heard that I was going to be covering FanX with a press pass, she invited me to stop by the Figmentation Foundation booth and see what they wanted to do as a non-profit.
